Richard H. Shomo was born on 15 April 1893, in Keyston, Pennsylvania, USA. He was the son of George Ellsworth Shomo and Roxie Rovena Kizer. He is listed in the census as George Ellsworth Shomo's son on the 7 June 1900 Census in Reade Township, Pennsylvania. He is listed in the census as George Ellsworth Shomo's son on the 19 April 1910 Census in Janesville Precinct, Gilich Township, Pennsylvania. Between 1916 and 1919 Grandpa Shomo who was born and raised in Pennsylvania had been inducted into the Army, trained as a medic and attached to an Army Coastal artillery unit stationed along the Maine coast. This was probably in 1916 or 1917. It was while he was stationed there that grandma and grandpa met and apparently started dating. When America got involved in World War I grandpa was sent to France as a medic. He spent quite some time in France and had all kinds of memorabelia and maps from his war time experiences.1
Biography: When grandpa returned from France he came back to see grandma who by this time was well liked by the Brown family. Grandpa was offered a job in the bobbin mill, where he worked all of his working life. Grandma and Grandpa Shomo were married in January, 1919 but I don't have an exact day. Since Grandpa Shomo was not Catholic, they were married in the priest house, which was the custom as that time, so I don't think there was much of a fuss over the marriage.1 In January 1920 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA, at age 26, Richard H. Shomo married Hannah M. Donoghue, age 25, daughter of John O'Donoghue and Julie Cronin. Richard is the head of a family on the 12 January 1920 Census in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Richard is a Sergeant MC in the U.S. Army. Richard is the head of a family on the 14 April 1930 Census in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Name transcribed as Richard Schoms -- Richard is a shuttle maker in a shuttle shop. Also living with them is John Donahue, 4 1/2, a nephew. He died on 30 August 1966 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA at age 73.2
