Hannah M. Donoghue was born on 13 June 1894, in Kilmacurrane, Cork, Munster, Ireland. She was the daughter of John O'Donoghue and Julie Cronin. In 1915 Hannah M. Donoghue immigrated from per 1920 census to Ireland. Between 1915 and 1919 in Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts, USA, Hannah M. Donoghue was employed as a maid.
Biography: Her father's brother had come over from Ireland a few years before. He was a plasterer and made good money and it seems each year went back to Ireland for a visit and brought back one of his nephews or nieces. Grandma's three or four sisters and a brother, Din, were already in America when Grandma came over. Grandma was born in 1897 so she was about 18 when she came over. Her uncle worked out of either Portland Maine or Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Irish girls were in big demand as maids for wealthy famillies and grandma got a job as a maid working for the Brown family who owned a Bobbin mill in Lawrence, Massachusetts. As most weathy families in those days the Brown's had a home at the ocean but I"m not sure if it was in New Hampshire or Maine.1 In January 1920 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA, at age 25, Hannah M. Donoghue married Richard H. Shomo, age 26, son of George Ellsworth Shomo and Roxie Rovena Kizer. As of January 1920, her married name was Hannah M. Shomo (Donoghue). Hannah M. Donoghue is listed as Richard H. Shomo's wife on the 12 January 1920 Census in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Hannah M. Donoghue is listed as Richard H. Shomo's wife on the 14 April 1930 Census in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Hannah M. Donoghue died on 6 January 1982 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA at age 87.2
