On Tuesday, 19 October 1813 in Bakum, Niedersachsen, Germany, at age 26, Mary Schoene married John Rieman, age 25, son of Johan Herman Rieman and Anna Margaretha Dünhövet. Witnesses - Herman Dünhövet and Caspar Nieman.² As of 19 October 1813, her married name was Mary Rieman (Schoene). Mary Schoene and John Riemanemigrated in April 1832 from Vestrup, Niedersachsen, Germany. The ship bringing the family to the U.S. landed in Baltimore. They traveled from Baltimore to Pittsburg on foot following a four mule team hauling their baggage. From Pittsburg, they traveled by boat to Cincinnati.³ Mary Schoene, Clementine Rieman, Mary Rieman and John Rieman were included in the indenture agreement signed by John Rieman in Bremen, Freie Hansestadt Bremen, Germany, on 14 April 1832. John Herman Rieman signed an indenture agreement to his brother-in-law, Johan Frederick Rohenkohl, on 14 April 1832. "John Herman Reiman, his wife and four children are indentured to Mr. John Fred. Rohenkohl, for 80 Bremen dollars (64 Spanish dollars) at 5% interest." This was the cost of their passage from Bremen to Baltimore/Cincinnati.⁴ Mary Schoene is listed as John Rieman's wife on the 3 September 1850 Census in Ottawa Township, Ohio.⁵ Mary Schoene is listed as John Rieman's wife on the 16 June 1860 Census in Ottawa Township, Ohio.⁶ Mary died on 1 August 1871 in Ottawa Township, Ohio, USA at age 83. She was buried on 3 August 1871 in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Glandorf, Putnam, Ohio, USA; Maria Elizabeth Rieman (born Schoene) age 84.⁷
