John Herman Rieman signed an indenture agreement to his brother-in-law, Johan Frederick Rohenkohl, on 14 April 1832. "John Herman Reiman, his wife and four children are indentured to Mr. John Fred. Rohenkohl, for 80 Bremen dollars (64 Spanish dollars) at 5% interest." This was the cost of their passage from Bremen to Baltimore/Cincinnati.3
