      John Pryor Childers was employed as a farmer, but also served as county coroner. He was born on 4 March 1787. He was the son of Robert Childers and Nancy Pryor. On Wednesday, 8 August 1810, at age 23, John Pryor Childers married Catherine Ament, age 23, daughter of Phillip Ament and Maria Elizabeth Schmidt. In 1815 John Pryor Childers lived; four miles from Falmouth on Short Creek Bottom. On Friday, 29 August 1834, at age 47, John Pryor Childers married Eliza Asberry. In 1850 the Census listed John Pryor Childers as the head of a family. 16 slaves, 3 adult females and the remainder children. In 1860 the Census listed John Pryor Childers as the head of a family. He died in 1870. He made a will in 1870. The widow, Eliza, refused to accept the will and administration of the estate, several granddaughters joined in the dispute, and the estate was hotly contested in the courts.
