     James Perry Childers was born in 1821. He was the son of Robert Childers Jr and Sarah Ann Landrum. On Friday, 19 November 1841, James Perry Childers married Mary Jane McDowell, age 16. On 3 September 1850 the Census listed James Perry Childers as the head of a family in Jefferson Township, Missouri, USA. James P. 29 and his wife Mary J. 25 and their children Robert T. 7, John G. 5 and James W. 2. James is a farmer.1
He and his brother Richard joined the California gold seekers, and sailed around Cape Horn on a trip to the gold fields. The brother died en route and James bribed the ship's Captain to land on the coast of South America to bury the body of the brother instead of burying him at sea. He was in military service between 1860 and 1864. He was a Confederate soldier serving under Stirling Price, who was earlier governor of Missouri. In 1865 James Perry Childers lived in Summerville, Oregon, USA; James P. Childers owned a farm one and one-half miles northwest of Sommerville. In 1870 the Census listed James Perry Childers as the head of a family in Summerville, Oregon, USA.2 He died on 1 November 1895 in Summerville, Oregon, USA.
